A modern, off-grid cottage with solar to power all the amenities you require. We created and positioned the cottage so that it would allow you to Exhale as soon as you step out onto the stoep with its breathtaking views of the bird-filled valley and surrounding towering mountains that continually change colour. We want your heart beat to slow and your senses to heighten as you breathe in the fresh Little Karoo air and fragrant surrounding vegetation. If you are still a little stressed, the wood-fired hot tub is sure to relax every muscle in your body. Look up at the stars as you laze on the stoep netting or take a short walk down to the rock pond to cool down on hot summer days. If you're feeling more energetic, we have a 2.5km walking path that takes you around the farm with some lookout stops to rest and view the valleys below. If cooking or braaing is your passion, you can do that inside or on the stoep and watch the moon rise over the distant hills. With a different view from every window, we are sure your stay at Exhale cottage will be a memorable one.
We are excited to share our piece of heaven with you. We bought the farm and named it Journey to symbolise this new chapter of our lives and Exhale cottage is just the beginning.
The cottage is nestled in the fertile and fruit-tree lined Keisie Valley. It is situated around 2.5 hours from Cape Town and 18km from the picturesque town of Montagu, bursting with art, history, great food and friendly people. Pick up your supplies in Montagu as you may end up relaxing at the cottage for the rest of your stay. The short graded gravel farm road will guide you to the front door.

The house
A completely off-grid, 4-sleeper house surrounded by the Little Karoo bush. If you do need to work or share your experience with family and friends, there is wifi to keep you connected.

A sociable place to be, whether relaxing, braaiing or cooking. Open plan kitchen and kitchen island. A dining room table alongside the indoor fireplace / braai and a couch and loungers to soak up the views and tranquility.
Stoep
Stargaze on the stoep hammocks or soak away your stress in the wood-fired hot tub. An outside cooker and fire-pit complete the facilities on the stoep. The views are rejuvenating..
Around the house
The rock pond has a deck with some comfy seating under the umbrella. It's perfect to feel immersed in the bush. Grab a book for the outside bath and watch the sun rise or set. If you are feeling more energetic, the path is a perfect place to get some scenic exercise.

The cottage is surrounded by a huge variety of animals and insects. Our idea is to create a window into their world and watch them living their day to day lives.

A short dirt road leads you to the cottage once you turn off the R318 at the Journey sign.

Arrival time
From 14:00, unless prior arrangements have been made
Departure time
By 10:00, unless prior arrangements have been made. We will try, as far as possible, and with prior arrangement, to allow our weekend guests a late check out on a Sunday.
Guests
Accommodation is provided for a maximum of 4 guests / as per the number of guests on your booking.
Septic Tank
We make use of a septic tank. Please do not dispose of sanitary towels or foreign objects in the toilets.
Safety & Security
EXHALE COTTAGE celebrates the fact that there is very little crime in the area. However, we cannot accept responsibility for the safety or security of personal property. This is for the tenant’s own insurance.
We are not responsible for any injury to guests or theft of their property.
There is a security vehicle, patrolling the area, which you might hear at night.
Rules
You enter Journey Farm / Exhale Cottage at your own risk. Owners will not be responsible for any loss / damage / injury / death or claims.
Sound levels are to be maintained within an acceptable level, with a music-off policy by 22:00. The cottage is built in an untouched, natural area, which is conducive to peace and relaxation and we trust that you respect this request. This house is not a party venue.
Children must be supervised at all times, whilst swimming or not. We are not responsible for their safety or supervision. We also expect that you will supervise children in terms of respecting the establishment’s furniture, fittings and all aspects of the entertainment area.
Any breakages, damages or removal of contents of the property shall be for your expense. If necessary, please notify us on departure of your awareness of any aforementioned irregularities or malfunctioning equipment that you may have used.
No smoking is permitted inside the house. If you smoke inside the house you will be charged a R1500 cleaning fee in respect of curtain and furniture cleaning costs, etc.
Be aware that we have wildlife around the cottage. Be careful when you are in the veld as there could be scorpions, snakes etc. which could pose a danger to you.
7. Payment / Cancellation
Full payment is required before a booking can be confirmed.
Cancellation 100% refund if cancelled within 30 days before booking ; 50% refund if cancelled 15 days in advance ; 25% refund if cancelled 7 days in advance. No refund if cancelled within the week before arrival. We will try to move booking dates, depending on availability.
